20 de Febrero de 2024: En una asociación estratégica, el Grupo Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD), el operador más grande de zonas económicas integradas y específicamente construidas, y Titan Lithium, con sede en los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, anunciaron la firma de un acuerdo de alquiler de tierras por 50 años para la instalación de una planta de procesamiento de litio de última generación en el Área Industrial Khalifa (KEZAD Al Ma’mourah).
Cómo es la planta de litio
La planta abarcará más de 290.000 m2 y se desarrollará en tres etapas. Para ello se planean invertir unos u$s 1.400 millones de dólares (5 mil millones de dírhams) por parte de Titan Lithium, que producirá carbonato de litio y hidróxido de litio de grado de batería para fabricantes de baterías y fabricantes de vehículos eléctricos en todo el mundo. Este proyecto marca un punto de inflexión crítico en el desarrollo de los Emiratos Árabes Unidos como una fuerza clave en el mercado mundial de procesamiento de litio.
La planta importará aproximadamente 150.000 toneladas de litio anualmente desde sus minas en Zimbabue para su procesamiento a través del adyacente Puerto Khalifa. Este proyecto ilustra claramente el ecosistema simbiótico del Grupo AD Ports construido en Abu Dhabi, en el que todo el ecosistema se beneficia de las sinergias de ingresos a partir de un desarrollo significativo para uno de los cinco clústeres integrados verticalmente. En tanto, Vaibhav Jain, fundador y presidente de Titan Lithium Industries Ltd, dijo: «Nuestra instalación en KEZAD no es sólo una inversión en el futuro de Abu Dhabi y de Titan Lithium Industries, sino un paso hacia un futuro sostenible y mejor para el mundo. El litio es el nuevo petróleo y, a través de este proyecto, estamos posicionando a los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, y específicamente a Abu Dhabi, como un centro crucial en el dominio del procesamiento de litio».

Los Emiratos Árabes Unidos, como parte de su compromiso de alcanzar la meta de emisiones netas cero, ha anunciado que aumentará la participación de vehículos eléctricos e híbridos al 50 por ciento de todos los vehículos vendidos para 2050, aumentando así la demanda de materiales de batería en el país.

February 20, 2024: In a strategic partnership, Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD) Group, the largest operator of integrated, purpose-built economic zones, and UAE-based Titan Lithium announced the signing of a 50-year land lease agreement for the installation of a state-of-the-art lithium processing plant in the Khalifa Industrial Area (KEZAD Al Ma’mourah).
Overview of the lithium plant
The plant will cover more than 290,000 m2 and will be developed in three stages. For this, some u$s 1.4 billion (5 billion dirham) is planned to be invested by Titan Lithium, which will produce battery-grade lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide for battery manufacturers and electric vehicle manufacturers worldwide. This project marks a critical turning point in the UAE’s development as a key force in the global lithium processing market.
The plant will import approximately 150,000 tons of lithium annually from its mines in Zimbabwe for processing through the adjacent Khalifa Port. This project clearly illustrates the symbiotic ecosystem AD Ports Group built in Abu Dhabi, where the entire ecosystem benefits from revenue synergies from a significant development for one of the five vertically integrated clusters. In this way, AD Ports Group is involved in the entire automotive industry supply chain with end-to-end logistics solutions, from the factory to the end customer.

The availability of processed lithium is crucial for the manufacture of battery packs used in electric vehicles, a rapidly growing sector in the global drive towards sustainable energy solutions.
The United Arab Emirates, as part of its commitment to achieve a net zero emissions goal, has announced that it will increase the share of electric and hybrid vehicles to 50 percent of all vehicles sold by 2050, thereby increasing the demand for battery materials in the country.
